Immigration

Firstly, I’ll state that I am an immigrant myself; a Jamaican-born US citizen, and I believe in the ideals of this country. I understand firsthand the love for this country, what it stands for, and what it was founded on. Moreover, I was taught that if we love something, we must also work with that something, to improve upon it. So as your congressman, I will work to amend the community and the intense witch hunt on migrants and immigrants from other countries.

Immigration is a topic that stands hand in hand alongside the Broward County community. The Broward County community stands in one of the most diverse communities in the nation. For us to continue to grow as a country of peace, we must work together to establish immigration rules that protect our country, while providing opportunities for people entering our country to successfully integrate and become active, healthy, and productive citizens. For over 4 years, I have led the Holness Citizenship Drive located in Lauderhill, which assisted people in pursuit of legally obtaining their citizenship. This initiative has processed more than 7,500 citizenship applications. We must ensure that others are not trying to stop that process, preventing people who have contributed to this country and paid taxes from being allowed the same freedom and respect as all of us. One thing is to be understood: violence cannot halt violence; only purposeful planning can sever the ties of violence and community.

The Holness Immigration Modernization plan seeks to create a more efficient system that will seek to reform the immigration process and the tactics used to control mass immigration. The components of the policy include segments that will:

  • Create pathways to legalized citizenship

  • Reform immigration laws and work visas

  • Dream Act Protections

  • Agricultural Work Programs

  • Provision/oversight and enforcement protocols

The Holness Immigration Modernization Act’s overall goal is to implement an immigration reform system that effectively tackles the ongoing restlessness rooted in immigration. The policy would allow for immigrants who apply to receive a Temporary Registered Migrant status (RTM status). This would mean that temporarily, immigrants are given temporary resident status to live freely, work opportunistically, and maintain regular American livelihood, with opportunities to renew and become naturalized after a given period. The program will also work with existing legislation to optimize and help Dream Act recipients, Naturalization programs, and workforce opportunities.
